The proven and renowned expertise with the integrated fair concept by ISM and ProSweets Cologne combined with in-depth knowledge of the confectionery and snack industry enables Koelnmesse to bring this successful format to the Gulf region with the international fairs Sweet & SnackTec Middle East and Sweets & Snacks Middle East.

Sweets Middle East and Sweet & SnackTec Middle East 2010 attracted intense interest from professionals across the sweet and sweet technology sector, with exhibitors reporting upbeat trading with 5,097 visitors from 60 countries.

The exhibitors confirmed that the Middle East is one of the key growth areas and praised the dynamic trade show duo as an extremely successful platform.

More than 68% of the exhibitors in 2010 already announced their participation at Sweet & SnackTec Middle East 2011.

Consumption of packaging material in the MENA region is set to reach a total of 25.5 million tonnes by 2014. The regional snack industry is set to increase by 21% by 2014. In Dubai alone, the snack market has grown by 10% over the past 12 months (dated 10/2010) and is now valued at AED 305 million. The Middle East is considered as a region with tremendous growth potential, said Nestlé’s regional CEO Yves Manghardt.

With high demand for a diverse range of packaging solutions, hypermarkets being a key driver of grocery value sales in the Middle East and a total consumption of food products at almost USD 4 billion in the UAE alone, the outlook for the confectionery, snacks, baked goods and ice cream packaging industry in the Middle East remains sweet. The Middle East and North Africa offer attractive investment opportunities for ackaging material, machinery and equipment suppliers.

Food processing is currently one of the fastest growing non-oil sectors in the Middle East. GCC‘s annual food imports alone exceed USD 12 billion. Besides the GCC, Governments in other parts of the Middle East are also offering several incentives and facilities to investors willing to set up food processing units in their respective countries.
