Annual Radiology Meeting in UAE Highlights Latest Technologies in Radiology

Dubai, 7 November 2017 --( ASIA TODAY )-- The 2nd edition of the Annual Radiology Meeting in UAE - ARM, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority, concluded at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre today.

While commenting on the advent of ‘Augmented Reality’ and ‘3D imaging in Radiological diagnostics, Tim Law, the President of Novarad, Utah, said, “We showcased during our participation at ARM the lastest cutting-edge technology of Microsoft’s HoloLens Augmented Reality goggles, to develop a new imaging product that transforms patient’s imaging studies into 3D and presents them in a very effective manner.”
He added, “This technology, which is currently not FDA approved, gives radiologists, physicians, surgeons and other clinicians the ability to see and interact with the data while the patient is being operated in operation theatres and even before operations are being conducted at the planning stage.”

While stating that any new technology should ultimately meet the demands of radiologists, Mohammad Isifan, of GE Healthcare said, “GE aims to deliver need based technology to its clients in the healthcare industry. The UAE, offers a great international climate, as it attracts businesses from all over the globe and during ARM 2017, we as a major technology provider intend to collaborate with leading radiologists and radiographers to deliver the right technology that suit their requirements.”

Among a few technologies helpful for radiologists, was ‘Ultrasound Elastography’ by Seimens Healthineers, which helps in analyzing a tissue in a non-invasive manner. According to experts, Ultrasound Elastrography, offers a new approach in delivering improved diagnostic decisions, especially in the field of liver fibrosis.
With an overall increase in the number of cancer patients due to rising life expectancy and growing populations, a study conducted by Globocan, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, estimates that by 2030, more than 21 million men and women worldwide could develop cancer. According to leading radiology experts at ARM 2017, the latest advances in radiology can not only help in the early detection of cancer but also enable better diagnosis for cancer patients.

The 3 day-event highlighted the latest advances and developments in the field of radiology and diagnostic imaging including ‘Augmented Reality’ and ‘3D Imaging’ which caught the attention of radiologists, radiographers and physicians in the UAE and abroad. Among the other key topics discussed at ARM today were, the Evolving Role of Radiographer, Dental Imaging and MRI Cardiac Imaging.

The exhibition, running parallel to the conference, attracted more than 40 participating brands in the field of radiology and diagnostic imaging to showcase their cutting-edge equipment and most updated medical devices used in the field.

In conclusion of the event, organizers have announced the dates of the 3rd edition of the Annual Radiological Meeting in UAE which will be held between the 29th and 31st of October 2018, at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The event is organized by INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions, member of INDEX Holding, in partnership with the Radiology Society of the Emirates, and it is supported by the Radiology Society of Saudi Arabia, the European Society of Radiology and the UAE-India Business Council.
