Taipei, Nov. 1 (CNA) Videos of the powerful March 11 earthquake and devastating tsunami in Japan, as well as footage of Taiwan's post-disaster help, will be shown at an event in Taipei next month as a thank-you gesture to the country, the Japanese event organizers said Tuesday.

The event will see clips of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the chiefs of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures -- the three hardest-hit areas by the magnitude-9 earthquake -- and others expressing gratitude to Taiwan, according to the Japan and Taiwan Culture Art Exchange Association.

"We are very grateful and touched by Taiwan's generous donations and help," said Tony Tanaka, president of the association, at a news conference to announce the event that will take place at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Dec. 2.

Taiwan donated about 20 billion yen (US$260.64 million) in cash to the Japanese victims of the quake, 90 percent of which came from the private sector.

Two residents from the quake-hit areas will also attend the event in person to say thank-you to Taiwan.

Judy Ongg -- a Japanese actress, singer, author and woodblock-print artist from Taiwan -- will perform a new song titled "Good Partner" at the event.

Other guests will include Japanese actress Chie Tanaka, best known locally for her role as Tomoko in the Taiwanese blockbuster "Cape No. 7," which features love stories between Taiwanese and Japanese people.

"The event represents a story of friendship between Japan and Taiwan," she said in a video broadcast at the press conference. "It is blessed to have a neighbor like Taiwan."

The event will also present several videos showing the ongoing reconstruction progress in Japan and the perseverance of local residents getting through their difficulties.

A total of 3,500 free tickets will be available to those interested in attending. (By Elaine Hou)
