Singapore 30 August 2018 --( ASIA TODAY )-- MMI (Messe Munchen International) is set to return to Singapore with its mega building and construction events, BAU and BAUMA next year after an absence of nearly two decades. MMI will set up the regional headquarters in Singapore for the Southeast Asian region.

Messe Munchen, the world’s largest organiser of building and construction exhibitions in Europe and China, will take a stake in Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS), the organiser of the Architecture & Building Services (ABS) series in Singapore.

MMI and CEMS were the co-organisers of the Baucon series in the 1990s, with the support of the then Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the Singapore Institute of Architects Building Centre (SIABC), chaired by renowned architect and businessman, Dr Albert Hong.

However, MMI left Singapore and had launched the BAUMA China series in the huge market in China when the country joined the World Trade Organisation in 2001. Recently, MMI also acquired the 100,000 square metres Fenestration exhibition in China, making the company the largest organiser of building and construction shows in the country.

Organised by CEMS, a pioneer in the exhibition industry in Singapore, the ABS series is a mega platform which showcases the solutions for Smart Nation building and serves the needs of the architecture and the building services industries in Singapore and beyond.

Spearheaded by ArchXpo, in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Architects, the ABS series also presents five other events; iFAME (International Facility Management Expo), LED & Light Asia, Safety & Security Asia, Fire & Disaster Asia, and Work Safe Asia. Altogether, the six shows present a comprehensive and integrated platform for all the building and construction needs of the region, all under one roof.

Significantly, the ABS series is supported by some 49 government agencies, trade associations and professional organisations such as the SIA, the International Facility Management Association (Singapore Chapter), the Specialist Trades Alliance of Singapore, the Security Industry Institute and the Fire Safety Managers Association of Singapore, amongst others.

Supported by CEMS, these associations organise some 15 international conferences, seminars and masterclasses, catering to some 3,500 professional delegates and business executives annually.

The ABS series stands to immediately benefit from the international network of connections that comes with the MMI pedigree and its international footprint as well as its offices around the world. MMI is positioned to add further value to the current ABS platform with new sectors in IT solutions, construction technologies and eco products that are the fundamental building blocks of a Smart Nation.

Said Mr Edward Liu, Managing Director of CEMS: “We are mindful of the Singapore government’s plan to ride the wave of technological innovation under the Industry Transformation Map for the construction industry. Hence, we are delighted that MMI has decided to return to Singapore with a firm commitment to help achieve our strategic vision of building a Smart Nation.”

Mr Edwin Tan, Group CEO of MMI in Greater China and Southeast Asia: “We are delighted to partner with CEMS to internationalise their ABS series, leveraging on our Bau, Bauma, Ceramitec and Fenestration exhibitions, going forward.”

The ABS series with its 15 conferences and four awards ceremonies will gather some 10,000 trade visitors and 3,500 delegates from Singapore and the region, making it one of the most important events in the building and construction in the ASEAN Economic Community.

“We are organising the ABS series with the industry associations, for the building and construction industries,” Mr Liu added.
