Global Views Monthly (GVM) released the 2020 Taiwan University Rankings, and the award ceremony was held on June 30. This year, GVM categorized all the universities in Taiwan into (1) comprehensive universities, (2) universities with strengths in the humanities, law, and commerce, (3) vocational universities, and (4) private universities. These schools were rated and evaluated using six indices, namely, academic achievements, teaching performance, level of internationalization, revenue from continuing education and industry-academia collaboration, financial health, and social influence.

NTU has ranked first in the category of comprehensive universities for three years in a roll, outshining all its counterparts in the first five indices while ranking 3rd for the last index—social influence. However, this did not affect NTU’s place as the top comprehensive university in Taiwan. In her address during the award ceremony, NTU Executive Vice President Chiapei Chou (周家蓓) thanked GVM for its dedication to enhancing higher education in Taiwan, noting that NTU will strive harder to meet the expectations of Taiwanese people in the fulfilment of social responsibility. EVP Chou also mentioned the launch of NTU’s first Social Responsibility and Sustainability Report (USR Report) in late June 2020. This report details NTU’s dedication and contributions to Taiwan’s society and the international community. Hopefully, it will introduce the public to NTU’s concrete actions and efforts in the fulfilment of social responsibility and sustainability.
