PCHi Technology Summit 2018 Empowers Attendees with Fresh Perspectives

Beijing, 5 September 2018 --( ASIA TODAY )-- After a successful inaugural run in Shanghai last year, the PCHi Technology Summit returned to the favorable reception of the industry once again. Held from 27 – 28 August at the luxurious W Guangzhou in China, the event attracted around 500 beauty and personal care trade professionals (up almost 50% from last year) in attendance and over 20,000 views online.

This year’s Summit agenda was carefully curated by PCHi’s Cosmetics Science and Technology Innovation Committee (CSTIC), around the theme of Empowered for Renewed Vitality and PCHi’s new key branding pillars of Technology • Power • Spirit. For this edition, organizers chose to focus on the hot topics of anti-aging and sensitive skin, and their main objective was to provide inspiration for industry players to drive technological innovation and research development.

To address attendees’ needs and concerns, speakers not only tackled broad issues such as global market forces, industry trends, and changes in regulatory framework, but they also covered in-depth discussions on formulation technologies, efficacy evaluation, and clinical mechanisms.

Speaking at the event’s opening address, Mr Ying Jun, Vice President, RSE, shared, “According to industry sources, China’s cosmetic market is forecasted to be valued at RMB 490 billion by 2019. Analysts expect great growth potential in the Chinese personal care and home care industry, and this reflects our market’s importance in the global context. Over the last 11 years, our team has been focused on promoting technological innovation, and the PCHi brand is now widely recognized as the industry’s platform of choice — whether for sourcing, networking, or learning. Leaders from the China Association of Fragrance Flavour and Cosmetic Industries (CAFFCI), China Cleaning Industry Association (CCIA), and China Research Institute of Daily Chemical Industry (RIDCI) also expressed their views on the industry’s current situation and future trends. Mr Chen Shaojun, President of CAFFCI revealed, “According to our statistics, over 4,500 cosmetics companies in China have obtained production qualifications as at July 2018, and they account for nearly RMB 320 billion worth of products manufactured last year. Market segmentation by specific claims has helped to boost our country’s cosmetics manufacturing sector significantly.”

Sculpting a Brighter Future Together

China’s personal care market is at a point of inflexion and analysts see huge potential for advancement in the years ahead. At the Summit, various industry leaders took the opportunity to share their views on growth strategies for domestic enterprises.

A sentiment that surfaced several times was a reminder for companies to focus more on the big picture — how one can contribute to driving the industry forward and upward — and less on short-term gains, monetary or otherwise. In particular, even as the industry seeks to meet the consumer’s ever-evolving demands, speakers encouraged businesses to ensure two fundamental building blocks are handled well: technological innovation and product safety.

Delegates were exposed to multiple facets of each hot topic as they got to hear from a mixture of subject matter experts — including a dermo-cosmetics clinician, scientist, formulator, product designer, research analyst, regulatory authority, and academia.

Apart from the plenary sessions, Summit delegates were also able to discover some of the latest offerings presented by more than 30 exhibitors.
