Yangon International Airport Personnel Receive Gold and Silver Diplomas For Completing The Airports Council International’s Global Safety Network Diploma Programme

Yangon, Myanmar, 13 February 2020 --( ASIA TODAY )-- Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (“YACL”), operator of Yangon International Airport (“YIA”), announced that 11 of its personnel have received Gold and Silver diplomas from the Airports Council International’s (“ACI”) Global Safety Network (“GSN”) Diploma Programme (the “Programme”) in the ceremony held on 11 Feb 2020.

The ceremony was held in YIA, where honoured guests Mr. SL Wong, Head of Technical Affairs, Safety, Capacity and ATM at ACI Asia-Pacific, and Dr. Punya Shakya, Regional Officer – AGA at ICAO presented the diplomas to the graduates.

The 11 personnel are from YACL’s Operations Department - Safety, Airside Operations, and E&M, six of whom received Gold Diplomas while five received Silver Diplomas.

The GSN Diploma Programme was conducted onsite at YIA from October 2018 to October 2019, allowing local staff to apply the knowledge they accrued. The completion of the Programme equips YACL’s Safety Managers and Airside Personnel with the expertise needed to implement and improve safety procedures at the airport, as per the international industry standards, which will greatly enhance its overall operational efficiency and safety.

The Programme consists of six courses, namely:
• GSN 1 – Safety Management System;
• GSN 2 – Airside Safety and Operations;
• GSN 3 – Emergency Planning and Crisis Management;
• GSN 4 – Working with Annex 14;
• GSN 5 – Advanced Safety Management Systems; and
• GSN 6 – Aerodrome Auditing and Compliance.

Each course lasted five days and combining theoretical and practical learning techniques for an immersive learning experience.

The courses can be taken separately or combined for a participant to get either the Silver or Gold Diploma. The participant must finish GSN 1-3 in any order within three years to get the Silver Diploma and for the Gold Diploma, the complete GSN1-6 in any order within three years.

Mr. Pedro Cavem, Operations and Safety Director at YACL, said: “The conclusion of the Programme by our Airside Operations and Maintenance personnel witness the commitment of YACL towards our staff and involved stakeholders to assure a Safe, Secure and Efficient Airport Operation at YIA.”

“We look forward to improving the currently implemented safety management systems as we seek to set a high standard level in aerodrome safety in the region,” he added.

Mr. Ho Chee Tong, Chief Executive Officer of YACL, said: “Passengers and airline partners in YIA can expect a marked improvement in operational safety and efficiency as we complement our current knowledge and practices in operations systems with the skills acquired from the Programme. This is part of YACL’s continuous training programme to equip our colleagues for the future development of YIA.”
